Irving Firefighters Union Declines to Endorse in Municipal Elections

IRVING, Texas — The Irving Professional Fire Fighters Association announced it will not endorse any candidates in the upcoming municipal elections, saying the organization is choosing to remain neutral at this stage of the election cycle.

The IPFFA, which represents Irving firefighters, said the decision reflects its responsibility to advocate for its members while maintaining public trust.

“Our priority remains the safety of our community and the well-being of our members,” IPFFA President Brian Becker said in a statement. “Currently, we believe it is in the best interest of our organization and the public to refrain from endorsing a candidate.”

The union said it may revisit the decision if any races advance to a runoff election.

Becker said firefighter involvement in the political process is tied to decisions made by elected and appointed officials that affect public safety and firefighter working conditions.

“People often ask why firefighters are involved in the political process,” Becker said. “The answer is simple — when elected and appointed officials make decisions that impact the safety of our community and the working conditions of our firefighters, we have a responsibility to be at the table.”

Becker added the union will continue advocating on issues affecting firefighters and residents.

“We will always advocate for what is right for our members and the citizens we serve, and we will not sit on the sidelines when those decisions are being made,” he said.

The union also said it remains committed to working with elected and appointed officials regardless of the election outcome and will continue offering professional input on matters affecting the community.
