DALLAS — A 38-year-old Dallas man was convicted of murder and sentenced to 45 years in prison after he walked up to an SUV in a Motel 6 parking lot, punched the driver in the face, threatened him with a gun, and shot him to death in a seemingly unprovoked attack.
Antoine Dominique Stevenson was found guilty by a jury on March 12, 2026, following a trial in Dallas County Criminal District Court. Judge Chika Anyiam sentenced him to 45 years in prison on the murder charge and an additional one year in state jail for evading arrest with a previous conviction.
The victim, 53-year-old David Charles Brock, was sitting in the driver’s seat of his SUV in the parking lot of the Motel 6 in the 13100 block of North Central Expressway Service Road in North Dallas when Stevenson approached the driver’s side window.
According to trial testimony and evidence presented by prosecutors, Stevenson punched Brock in the face, threatened him with a gun, and then shot him. Brock was rushed to a hospital but later died from his injuries. The entire incident was captured on surveillance video from the motel.
Stevenson fled the scene in his girlfriend’s car. Dallas Police homicide detectives used the vehicle’s license plate captured on Flock safety cameras and traced its GPS location to an apartment complex. The following day, officers conducted surveillance at the complex and observed Stevenson nervously pacing in the parking lot for several hours.
When officers attempted to arrest him, Stevenson fled on foot into the apartment complex office. He was eventually tasered and taken into custody.
During an interview with detectives, Stevenson denied being the person shown in the surveillance video and attempted to blame the shooting on the passenger in Brock’s SUV. Later, while being booked into jail, he told a detective that he shot Brock because the victim had a gun.
At the time of the murder, Stevenson was on probation for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. His probation was revoked, and he was sentenced to 30 years in prison on that case.
At trial, Stevenson claimed self-defense, alleging that Brock had pointed a gun at him. However, no firearms were recovered from Brock’s vehicle. Prosecutors called the passenger in Brock’s SUV to testify. The witness stated that Brock did not have a gun and that Stevenson’s attack was completely unprovoked. The passenger also testified that he and Brock were at the motel to buy drugs from Stevenson.
Lead prosecutor Jui Kothare, along with second chair Clint Stiffler and DA Investigator Thomas Naulty, presented the case for the State. The jury deliberated for one hour and 45 minutes before returning a guilty verdict.
Judge Chika Anyiam then sentenced Stevenson to 45 years in prison for murder and one year in state jail for evading arrest with a prior conviction.
The case was investigated by the Dallas Police Department.
