Midlothian Man Convicted of Injuring Elderly Grandmother During Dispute Over Beer

Andrew Weatherford

ELLIS COUNTY, Texas — An Ellis County jury has convicted a Midlothian man of recklessly causing bodily injury to an elderly individual following a domestic disturbance involving his grandmother, prosecutors announced.

According to Ellis County and District Attorney Lindy Beaty, 40-year-old Andrew Weatherford was convicted on June 8, 2026, of the state jail felony offense of Recklessly Causing Bodily Injury to an Elderly Individual.

Weatherford was originally charged with the third-degree felony offense of Injury to an Elderly Individual and pleaded not guilty before trial. After hearing the evidence, jurors found him guilty of the lesser-included offense.

Testimony during the trial revealed that Midlothian police officers responded to a domestic disturbance at approximately 10:30 p.m. on May 17, 2025, at the residence of Weatherford's grandmother, Linda Grigsby.

Investigators learned Weatherford became upset after Grigsby attempted to remove his last beer from his room and pour it out.

According to evidence presented in court, Weatherford grabbed his grandmother's right hand and twisted her thumb backward, causing her pain.

Following deliberations, the jury found that Weatherford recklessly caused bodily injury to an elderly individual.

“In our society, we have to take further steps to protect the more vulnerable: the elderly, disabled, and children,” Assistant County and District Attorney Kelsey Thompson said. “That’s why this office will prosecute cases when grown men assault elderly women.”

The case was prosecuted by Assistant County and District Attorneys Kelsey Thompson and Kayce Witt.

Ellis County and District Attorney's Office investigators Lyle Gensler and Stephen Cooper assisted in the prosecution.
