IRVING, Texas — A 31-year-old man was arrested in a violent confrontation in North Irving that left another man seriously injured, then picked up an additional felony charge hours later after police say he assaulted a correctional officer inside the Irving Jail.
Irving police responded at 5:34 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2026, to the 2200 block of Cunningham Street following a reported fight.
According to police, 31-year-old Carlos Eugene Mack-Humphrey told officers he was walking down Cunningham Street when he asked a man identified as Greg Garcia for a ride to West Dallas. Mack-Humphrey claimed Garcia refused, threw a cigarette butt at him, and he swung at Garcia but missed before leaving the scene.
Garcia gave officers a far different account.
According to police, Garcia said Mack-Humphrey approached his residence holding a brick. Garcia said he knocked the brick from Mack-Humphrey’s hands and pulled out a pocketknife to defend himself.
Investigators said the confrontation escalated when Mack-Humphrey allegedly threw a clay flowerpot at Garcia’s head. Garcia raised his arm to protect himself, and the flowerpot shattered against his left arm, causing what police described as a deep laceration that resulted in disfigurement.
Police said the altercation continued through a yard and around vehicles and a trailer before Mack-Humphrey fled east on Cunningham Street, with Garcia briefly chasing after him.
Because of the severity of Garcia’s injury, Mack-Humphrey was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.
Garcia was taken to Baylor Hospital by Irving Fire Department.
Arrest Came Two Days After Release From Jail
Court records show Mack-Humphrey had been released from the Dallas County Jail just two days earlier, on April 13, after pleading guilty in an assault causing bodily injury case and receiving credit for 13 days served. The confusing part is that the sentence was for 39 days, but was inexplicably released.
Records also show he pleaded guilty in December 2025 to possession of a controlled substance involving THC and was sentenced to 30 days in county jail, and in October 2025 pleaded guilty to evading arrest and was sentenced to 27 days in jail.
Police also noted a dismissed 2024 assault case involving his boyfriend and a 2014 family violence conviction in Dougherty County, Georgia.
Additional Charge Filed After Jail Incident
Police said Mack-Humphrey was involved in another violent incident while in custody.
At about 2:09 a.m. April 16th, officers were alerted to an assault inside the Irving Jail after Mack-Humphrey allegedly became disorderly and refused repeated commands to return to his cell.
According to police, he took an aggressive fighting stance toward a correctional officer and, as staff attempted to restrain him, struck the officer multiple times, causing scratches, cuts and bruising to the officer’s face.
The officer was treated at the scene.
Police said the incident was captured on jail surveillance video and witnessed by multiple staff members.
An additional charge of assault of a public servant was filed.
Later that day, Mack-Humphrey was transferred to the Dallas County Jail, where he remains in custody.
His bond was set at $150,000.
