Azle Special Education Teacher Arrested After Alleged Assault of Student

Sawyer Stinchfield

AZLE, Texas — A former Azle High School special education teacher has been arrested following an investigation into an alleged assault involving a student, according to the Azle Police Department.

Officers responded April 13, 2026, to Azle High School, located at 1200 Boyd Road, after Azle ISD staff reported an incident involving 34-year-old Sawyer Stinchfield.

School officials said Stinchfield had already been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation into the allegation.

Stinchfield, who had worked for the district for about one year, later resigned following an internal review by the district’s board.

Azle police detectives conducted an investigation and obtained an arrest warrant for Stinchfield on a charge of assault against an elderly or disabled individual, a Class A misdemeanor under Texas law.

Stinchfield was taken into custody on the warrant.

The case has been filed with the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office for review and prosecution.

Police said they are continuing to work with school officials to ensure student and staff safety.

Due to the ongoing legal process, authorities said no additional details will be released at this time.
