FORT WORTH, Texas — The Fort Worth Police Department is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred early Saturday morning in east Fort Worth.
Police said the incident began around 4:15 a.m. on May 16, 2026, while East Division officers were already investigating a separate officer-involved shooting near the 4200 block of Wiman Drive.
According to investigators, a white SUV repeatedly drove past the scene at a high rate of speed, and officers believed the driver was attempting to strike officers standing near their patrol vehicles.
Authorities said officers attempted to stop the SUV, but the driver refused to pull over, leading to a pursuit that lasted approximately 15 minutes.
Police said officers eventually used a tactical vehicle intervention, commonly known as a PIT maneuver, to stop the vehicle.
After the SUV was stopped, officers approached with weapons drawn and issued multiple verbal commands to the driver, according to investigators.
Police said the adult male suspect refused to comply and allegedly grabbed an officer’s handgun, prompting multiple officers to fire their weapons.
The suspect was struck by gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene after officers and the Fort Worth Fire Department provided medical aid.
One Fort Worth police officer was also injured during the incident and transported to a local hospital. Officials said the officer is listed in good condition, though investigators have not yet determined how the injury occurred.
Detectives with the department’s Major Case Unit are continuing the investigation.
