MESQUITE, Texas - A 24-year-old man has been charged with capital murder following the death of a 4-month-old infant earlier this month in Mesquite.
According to the Mesquite Police Department, officers responded May 9 to an assist fire call in the 4000 block of Towne Crossing Boulevard involving an unconscious infant.
Mesquite Fire personnel also responded to the scene and performed lifesaving measures before transporting the infant to a local hospital. Authorities said the infant later died.
Investigators discovered multiple injuries on the child, prompting a criminal investigation into the cause of death.
Police said detectives later developed sufficient evidence to arrest 24-year-old Jayeshaun Spencer in connection with the infant’s death.
Spencer was charged with capital murder, according to investigators.
Authorities said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
