IRVING, Texas - The Irving ISD Board of Trustees has officially approved Dr. Dorian Galindo as the district's next superintendent following a special called board meeting held May 29.
The vote came after the completion of the state-required 21-day waiting period. Dr. Galindo will officially assume the role on July 1, 2026.
A longtime Irving ISD administrator, Dr. Galindo has served in multiple leadership positions within the district during the past six years, most recently as Chief of Staff. District officials said her work has focused on strategic planning, organizational alignment, accountability, research, and community-centered leadership.
"Our Board believes Irving ISD is well-positioned for continued success, and Dr. Galindo is the right leader to help guide our district into its next chapter," Board President A.D. Jenkins said. "She is a thoughtful and strategic leader who believes deeply in students, values collaboration and understands the importance of building strong relationships across our schools and community."
Following the board's vote, Dr. Galindo addressed attendees and emphasized her commitment to public education and collaboration.
"These are not easy times in public education," Galindo said. "But I also believe that our district is filled with extraordinary people who care deeply about children and who are capable of achieving incredible outcomes together when we unite around a common purpose."
She also spoke about the importance of supporting educators and creating an environment where students, teachers, staff, and district leaders can succeed together.
The board also announced that current Superintendent Magda Hernández will transition into the role of Superintendent Emeritus beginning July 1. In that position, Hernández will serve as an advisor and mentor while assisting with the leadership transition through Dec. 31, 2026.
"Serving Irving ISD has been one of the greatest honors of my life," Hernández said. "I am incredibly proud of all we have accomplished together on behalf of students, staff and families. I have full confidence in Dr. Galindo's leadership and look forward to supporting a smooth transition as the district continues building on its strong foundation and momentum."
Hernández has dedicated 34 years to public education and has led Irving ISD through several major initiatives, including the passage of Bond 2023, the expansion of employee wellness programs, the implementation of Blue Zones initiatives across the district, and ongoing efforts focused on student achievement and organizational excellence.
District officials expressed appreciation for Hernández's years of service while welcoming Dr. Galindo as the district's next superintendent.
