GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — Two fugitives wanted on human trafficking charges in South Dakota were arrested in Grand Prairie after spending more than eight years evading law enforcement, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
49-year-old Sheilata Gordon (Dallas Jail has her name as Shelita) was wanted on a South Dakota warrant charging her with first-degree human trafficking. 53-year-old Myeshia Gordon-Hughley was wanted on a warrant charging her with second-degree human trafficking.
Authorities said the pair were charged in 2017 in Hughes County, South Dakota, with multiple felony offenses, including human trafficking. After being arrested and making their initial court appearances, both women were released on bond.
Investigators said Gordon and Gordon-Hughley fled South Dakota following their release, and their whereabouts remained unknown for years.
The U.S. Marshals Service later developed information indicating the fugitives had been living in Omaha, Nebraska. Further investigation revealed the pair had recently left Nebraska and traveled to Grand Prairie, Texas.
On June 1, 2026, U.S. Marshals located Gordon and Gordon-Hughley at a hotel in Grand Prairie and arrested both without incident. They are currently in-custody at the Dallas County Jail.
According to investigators, the women lived in multiple states while avoiding capture, including Florida and Nebraska. Authorities also believe they changed their identities during that time in an effort to evade law enforcement.
Both suspects remain in custody and are awaiting extradition proceedings to South Dakota.
The investigation involved the U.S. Marshals Service offices in South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, and Texas.
