IRVING, Texas — Construction continues on a new elevated water storage tank in southwest Irving that will increase the city's water storage capacity by one million gallons to help accommodate future growth.

The replacement tank is being built at 2601 Esters Road and will have a total capacity of 2.5 million gallons. City officials expect the project to be completed by summer 2027.

Construction crews have completed all concrete pedestal lifts and finished the pedestal dome, marking a major milestone in the project.

Work is now shifting to the assembly of the tank bowl. Steel panels will be welded together at ground level before the completed bowl is lifted onto the pedestal later this summer. Officials said the tank will be painted and the City of Irving logo will be applied before it is raised into place.

After the bowl is installed, crews will begin the next phase of construction, which includes installing the top plate, electrical systems, and instrumentation used to monitor water levels and ensure safe operation.

Once the new storage tank becomes operational, the existing elevated tank will be demolished. The site will then be paved to expand parking at the Irving Police and Fire Training Facility.

City officials said the project will increase water storage capacity by one million gallons, helping meet the needs of continued population growth in southwest Irving.
