IRVING, Texas - Firefighters from Irving and Grand Prairie worked together to quickly contain a grass fire near the cities' shared boundary on July 31, preventing the blaze from spreading and eliminating remaining hot spots.
The incident began Friday when Irving Fire Department's Engine 5 was dispatched to a reported grass fire that was ultimately determined to be within Grand Prairie's jurisdiction.
Irving crews immediately responded to assist their neighboring department, sending Brush 9, Engine 7, Medic 5 and Truck 2 to the scene.
The Grand Prairie Fire Department responded with an engine company and two brush trucks.
Firefighters from both departments coordinated an aggressive attack to get ahead of the advancing flames before transitioning to extensive mop-up operations designed to extinguish remaining hot spots and prevent the fire from rekindling.
Several trees were damaged by the fire and required removal by Irving's truck crew to eliminate potential hazards and improve safety in the area.
No injuries or structural damage were reported.
The Irving Fire Department praised the coordinated response, noting that strong partnerships between neighboring agencies play a vital role in protecting both communities during emergency incidents.
