IRVING, Texas - An Irving woman is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after police say she assaulted two officers while being arrested during the investigation of a domestic disturbance.
Officers with the Irving Police Department were dispatched at approximately 9:20 p.m. on July 22 to an apartment complex in the 4500 block of W. Pioneer Drive, west of the President George Bush Turnpike, for a reported domestic disturbance in progress.
When officers arrived, they spoke with the reporting party, who said she had been involved in a verbal altercation with her mother-in-law, identified as 51-year-old Daphne Anjaneta Brownlow.
According to police, Brownlow admitted she had smoked marijuana earlier in the day. While speaking with her, an officer observed loose marijuana inside a clear purse she was carrying.
Officers decided to arrest Brownlow for possession of marijuana.
Police said that while officers were attempting to place Brownlow into a marked patrol vehicle, she intentionally scratched one officer's left arm, causing a visible abrasion.
Authorities said Brownlow also actively resisted arrest by stiffening her body, kicking her legs and refusing to place her feet inside the patrol vehicle.
When a second officer attempted to secure her with a seat belt, police allege Brownlow intentionally kicked the officer in the groin and chest. She also allegedly scratched his left arm, breaking the skin and causing it to bleed.
Officers were eventually able to secure Brownlow in the patrol vehicle and transport her to the Irving Jail.
During a search conducted after her arrest, officers discovered additional marijuana inside another purse belonging to Brownlow. The marijuana recovered from both purses had a combined net weight of approximately 2.6 grams, according to police.
Brownlow was charged with:

Two counts of Assault on a Peace Officer
Her total bond was set at $9,700.
Police later learned Brownlow was already out on bond for a previous arrest on a charge of Theft of Property.
She was subsequently transferred to the Dallas County Jail, where she remains in custody awaiting a court hearing.
The investigation remains ongoing.
