McKINNEY, Texas — A 21-year-old McKinney man has been sentenced to 65 years in state prison after a Collin County jury convicted him of sexually assaulting a child while staying as a guest in the victim’s home, District Attorney Greg Willis announced.
21-year-old Ivan Espinoza-Montes was found guilty of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, a first-degree felony. Presiding Judge Jim Pruitt handed down the 65-year sentence in accordance with the jury's verdict.
Discovery and Multi-Agency Investigation
The Collin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident in October 2024 after a child disclosed details of sexual abuse by a family friend.
Early that morning, the child's mother discovered Espinoza-Montes inside the child’s room and in the victim's bed while the rest of the household was asleep. She immediately contacted law enforcement.
Detective Ryan Nance conducted the investigation for the Collin County Sheriff’s Office. The child underwent a specialized forensic interview at the Collin County Children’s Advocacy Center and a sexual assault examination at the Turning Point Rape Crisis Center. Forensic DNA evidence collected during the medical examination corroborated the details provided during the child's interview.
Outstanding Charges Disclosed During Punishment Phase
Following the guilty verdict, the trial proceeded to the punishment phase, where prosecutors presented evidence regarding Espinoza-Montes's criminal history.
Jurors learned that at the time he committed the assault, Espinoza-Montes was out on bond from Titus County, where he was awaiting trial on multiple felony charges, including two counts of Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant, Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle, and Theft of a Firearm.
After reviewing the evidence and hearing testimony, the jury assessed a 65-year prison term.
District Attorney Greg Willis stated that Espinoza-Montes was welcomed into a family’s home as a friend and betrayed that trust by sexually assaulting a child. Willis noted that the Collin County jury evaluated the evidence and delivered a 65-year sentence, affirming that his office will always fight to protect children and hold predators accountable.
