Grand Hyatt DFW Airport Earns LEED Certification Following $34 Million Renovation
Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas – Grand Hyatt DFW Airport, conveniently located inside Terminal D at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), has achieved LEED –Certified status following its recently completed $34 million transformation. The certification recognizes the hotel’s commitment to sustainable design, environmental stewardship, and creating healthier indoor environments for guests and colleagues.
“We are proud to achieve LEED –Certified status as part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability and responsible hospitality,” said Jeff Babcock, General Manager of Grand Hyatt DFW. “Our recent hotel transformation was guided by a vision to connect luxury hospitality with our unique North Texas location while incorporating sustainability throughout the design and construction process. This certification reflects our commitment to creating exceptional spaces that support the wellbeing of our guests, colleagues, and community.”
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is a globally recognized standard for green building design, construction, and operations. Certification evaluates projects across key areas including energy and water efficiency, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality and sustainable design, with projects undergoing an independent review and verification process.
Grand Hyatt DFW recently completed a comprehensive renovation with both Mindclick, a Product Intelligence™️ company and Baumann Consulting (Baumann), a sustainability and engineering consulting firm, that incorporated sustainability throughout the design and construction process, from material selection and furnishings to indoor environmental quality and construction practices. Mindclick guided interior design and purchasing selections to include Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified wood products, recycled and reclaimed materials, and GREENGUARD-certified materials to support healthy indoor air quality. Baumann also provided commissioning services for all energy-related systems to verify proper operation and support guest comfort and energy efficiency.
Key initiatives achieved through the renovation included:
- Low-flow plumbing fixtures integrated, resulting in over 30% reduction of water usage compared to the baseline
- Over 40% lighting power reduction achieved and over 60% of equipment is ENERGY STAR rated
- Healthy materials verified as low-emissions or non-toxic
- 75% of the regularly occupied spaces in the Hotel now having access to daylight
- Strict indoor air quality management program during construction to protect health and safety
- Over 55% of construction waste diverted from landfills through recycling and furniture donations; waste streams diverted include concrete, gypsum board, metals, wood, cardboard, and plastic
The hotel’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond the built environment. Its culinary program reflects Hyatt’s global “Food. Thoughtfully Sourced. Carefully Served.” philosophy.
Officially completed earlier this year, the Grand Hyatt DFW’s transformation increased the number of guestrooms and suites from 298 to 315. Each guestroom was redesigned to blend comfort and technology with aviation-inspired details. When guests enter their rooms, automatic window shades rise to reveal panoramic runway views. The rooms also include a plane-spotting guide to help guests identify airlines from around the world as aircraft arrive and depart from DFW.
The renovation also modernized the hotel’s more than 20,000 square feet of meeting and event space, reinforcing its position as a destination for business travelers and groups. Highlights include a new top-floor executive boardroom and an indoor-outdoor rooftop Flight Deck event venue offering expansive views of aircraft arrivals and departures, as well as the 6,600-squarefoot America’s Ballroom and several mid-sized meeting rooms and executive boardrooms.
Upon arrival, guests are welcomed into a reimagined lobby featuring marble flooring, rich wood accents, and artwork created by local artists. Guests can also enjoy globally inspired cuisine at the newly-renovated Grand Met restaurant and lounge or unwind at the hotel’s rooftop pool, which offers distinctive views of the DFW runways.
