Three Irving ISD schools - Clifton Early Childhood School, Townsell Elementary School, and Houston Middle School - were placed in lockdown for approximately two hours on Wednesday, April 15.
IISD sent a letter to the parents explaining the events of the day.
The Irving Police Department reports that there was a disturbance reported at the Vineyards Apartment complex at the 4200 block of Pleasant Run Rd. While an officer was investigating that report, he was notified of a criminal trespass of an apartment by two individuals occurring at the same time.
When the officer encountered the individuals, one of the suspects fled toward and in close proximity to Sam Houston Middle School. Police searched around Houston Middle School, Las Brisas Condos and the wooded areas in that location.
During the search, the school was contacted to make them aware of the officer's activities in the area. School officials immediately went into lockdown mode.
"Students were kept indoors and school entrances were monitored closely so that potential suspects would not be able to enter," said Tony Thetford, ISD Director of Public Information, "at no time were the students in danger."
Irving Police reports that the suspect that did not run was interviewed by officers as to the reported trespass. The suspect that fled the scene was not captured, but has been identified.
