On April 20th, the Irving School Board approved resolution #08-09-19 authorizing 2009-2010 salary schedules for teachers with new money in the amount of 4.5 percent.
New teachers' salary will start at $48,000 per year, the highest paid in North Texas (see chart below). This move puts Irving over H-E-B, although school trustees say they are not competing nor trying to start a salary race. The main goal is to bring in quality talent to Irving schools.
| District | Salary |
| Hurst-Euless-Bedford | $47,370 |
| Birdville | $47,000 |
| Fort Worth | $45,600 |
| Grand Prairie | $45,500 |
| Grapevine | $44,900 |
| Carroll | $44,900 |
| Arlington | $44,500 |

The increase shows the high regards that Irving has towards education and helping their children be successful.
