According to a release by the Irving Police Department, the trial and punishment phase of Jose Valadez case regarding the murder of his estranged wife, Alma Rico, and the aggravated assault of Omar Laredo has concluded. Valadez was found guilty on both counts and received a sentence of 99-years to life for the murder and a 20-year sentence for the aggravated assault charge.
The murder case on his brother, Oscar Valadez has not yet gone to trial.
On September 8th, 2007, officers responded to a disturbance call at the Broadmoore Apartments on the 3200 block of W. Country Club Dr. in Irving where it was reported that a man had threatened 21-year-old Omar Laredo with a knife. Mr. Laredo lead the officers to the apartment where the assault had occurred.
Upon entering the apartment, officers found the body of 31 year old Alma Rico who had been stabbed in her upper body. The police identified brothers Jose and Oscar Valadez as suspects and issued arrest warrants. At the time, it was reported that both suspects entered the apartment and attacked the couple, Jose Valdez beig Ms Rico's ex-husband.
Jose Valadez was arrested the day after the killing in Grapevine and Oscar Valadez was arrested 80 miles south of Dallas.
