Election Results: All Three Irving Incumbents Win Their Council Seats

Lewis Patrick's victory was unopposed, but it's interested to note 2,654 votes were received for the place 4 council seat.  Rick Stopfer and Joe Philipp won their seats in landslide fashion.

Rick Stopfer defeated Bola Ayanbule for the Place 6 Council seat he has held since 1998.  Ayanbule was concerned over the lack of attention towards the central and southern parts of Irving.  Although the City Council has focused it's energies on improving these areas of the city, Ayanbule felt that more needed to be done.  He did have a good point, but voters favored the experience that Stopfer offered as well as much unfinished business he promised to continue.

"We're going to affect the quality of life tremendously in the next three to five years," commented Stopfer during his campaign.

"The next few years will see us move forward with more than 80 new development projects representing several billions of dollars of economic impact for our city; begin construction on major light rail, commuter rail and road initiatives; and implement plans to continue to enhance public safety and quality of life for our residents.", wrote Stopfer.

Stopfer received  88.54% of the votes versue 11.46% that Ayanbule received.  3,228 votes were submitted with 2,858 voting for Stopfer and 370 voting for Ayanbule.

Joe Philipp won the place 8 city council seat with 78.18% of the votes against Don Van Slyke who received 21.82%.  A total of 3,286 votes were submitted.  Philipp received 2,569 votes and Van Slyke had 717 votes.   Mr. Philipp has been a member of the council since 1996.
