Two Injured at Building Demolition on Airport Freeway in Irving

The accident occurred at 215 E. Airport Freeway at the Wingren intersection.  The building is the old K-Clinic that is abandoned and in the process of being demolished.

On Tuesday afternoon, a demolition worker was inside the building collecting and stripping copper wiring when a bulldozer accidentally bumped the building, causing it to collapse on top him.  The collapse trapped the worker who also broke both legs.

An Irving Police Officer arrived at the scene and attempted to rescue the injured worker.  As he walked on top of the debris, he mis-stepped and broke his leg.

Both injuries were not life-threatening according to the Irving Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to a report of a building collapse shortly after 2 p.m.  To rescue the trapped man, they had to cut a hole in the collapsed roof of the building.  They then transported both injured men to area hospitals.
