Rep. Kirk England Named to Committees

Today, State Representative England (D-Irving/Grand Prairie) was appointed to serve on two key committees for the 81st Legislative Session.  Rep. England was named to the House Committee on Business & Industry and the House Committee on Corrections.

"It is an honor and a privilege to be asked to serve on these two House Committees," said Rep. England.  "I am excited about this unique opportunity to work on Business & Industry as well as on Corrections issues."

Rep. England said that his committee assignments allow him to work closely on issues that affect his constituents.

The Business & Industry Committee oversees business and industry practices statewide including regulation of transactions, working conditions, and consumer protection.

"The committee's oversight affects every working Texan and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to play a positive role in that arena," said Rep. England.

The Corrections Committee's oversight includes incarceration and rehabilitation of convicted felons and the commitment and rehabilitation of youths.

"Having strong leadership within both of these agencies is essential to ensure that the programs are well-functioning.  This is something I take very seriously and look forward to working on.  More specifically working to improve the operation of the Texas Youth Commission has been and will continue to be a strong passion of mine. The state has an enormous obligation to see that these children are in the hands of professionals who work everyday to brighten their future" he said.

Rep. England explained that thousands of pieces of legislation will be considered by the legislature this session.  It is the responsibility of the committees to closely analyze legislation before representatives vote on bills on the house floor.  Taking an active role as a committee member enables him to have greater input on a large number of bills covering a wide range of issues.
