After a heated campaign, Irving residents voted in favor of allowing alcohol sales within city limits.

Today, three Kroger supermarkets in Irving began selling beer and wine. The only exception is the Kroger on MacArthur & Sixth street which was denied a permit due to its proximity to a school and church.

The city of Irving does not allow alcohol sales in stores that are 300 feet from a church or hospital, measured from door to door. Additionally, a store cannot sell alcohol if it is within 300 feet of the property line of a public or private school.

A store must receive approval from the City and a permit from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission before they can sell alcohol.

Although a few small stores have already begun to sell beer, Kroger is the first supermarket to do so.
