According to a news release, the Air Force' Office of the Special Investigations detachment learned about Farias' alleged involvement in the incident from Dallas police on Feb. 11 and had restricted him from leaving the base.
Air Force officials took him into custody on Friday and turned him over to Albuquerque police, according to the news release. Kirtland Air Force Base officials said Farias was assigned to Kirtland in August 2006 and has worked as a health services journeyman
It is unclear how Dallas Police linked Farias to the crime. Farias is accused of being the driver of the car that ran over Alfaro.
Police said Alfaro, 23, was beaten outside a Lower Greenville-area nightclub in Dallas on Jan. 25 after arguing with a group of men. Alfaro was then run over by a car; he died a short time later.
Farias, who was stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base, has been a member of the 377th Medical Support Squadron since 2006.
