Passenger is Freed After 2-hour Extrication in I35E Wreck

At around 12:12 pm this afternoon, several Dallas Fire Rescue and Dallas Police Department units were dispatched to an 18-wheeler crash on northbound I35E near Highway 635 in the Farmers Branch area.

Firefighters arrived to find an 18-wheeler overturned with the cab against a bridge support pillar. The driver of the 18-wheeler was able to get out, but the extensive wreckage pinned a passenger inside the cab.

Dallas Fire Rescue’s specialized Urban Search and Rescue teams were called to the accident scene for an extended extrication situation. After an extrication time of approximately two hours, the passenger was freed and airlifted to a local trauma center by CareFlite.

A sedan was also involved in the crash. The driver was transported to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.

All lanes of northbound I35E were closed for an extended period of time to allow for emergency responders to work the scene.
