Irving Police Remind Motorists of Upcoming Enforcement Period

The current 5-year grant awarded to the Irving Police Department by Tx.D.O.T. has been supplemented with additional grant (S.T.E.P. – I.D.M. Wave Grant).  Pursuant to that grant the following specific enforcement periods have been schedule.  During these dates additional officers will be added to the streets/highways with the sole task of D.W.I. enforcement and others to monitor Speed and Seatbelt compliance.

- Spring Break (March 6 - 22, 2009)
- Independence Day (June 26-30 and July 1-5, 2009)
- Labor Day (August 21 - September 7, 2009)

As noted, the upcoming Spring Break enforcement period is approaching and preparations are being made to ensure the continued success of making our roadways as safe as possible for travelers through close observation and the utilization of enforcement actions for those in non-compliance.  Additionally, within the Spring Break time period special attention will be given to the roadways on St. Patrick's Day.

Lt. Stephan Granberry of the Irving Police Department Traffic Section stated, "The heightened public awareness campaigns from previous high visibility and specific enforcement efforts continue to improve the public' understanding that everyone needs to do their part to ensure that we are all safe on our roadways.  The ultimate goal of these efforts is to reduce the occurrence and severity of motor vehicle accidents, injuries and their all too often tragic results."
