Decatur Woman Arrested After Running Over Woman, Crashing Vehicle into House

Allyson Sage Read

A Decatur woman is currently in jail facing multiple felony charges following a violent incident that occurred on Monday evening. According to law enforcement officials, the woman ran over another woman with her vehicle before crashing into a house.

The chaotic episode unfolded on County Road 1560, just north of Chico. Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin revealed that a distressing 911 call was received around 9 p.m., reporting a woman engaged in a physical altercation with others inside a residence and potentially armed with a firearm. The call was accompanied by the sounds of a woman screaming in the background.

Deputies swiftly responded to the scene, where they discovered significant exterior damage to the house and heard frantic screams from within. They made their way through the destroyed front porch and were met by a woman identified as Allyson Sage Read, 24, charging towards them with clenched fists.

"One deputy deployed a taser in order to subdue her. She became compliant," explained Sheriff Akin.

Investigators were subsequently called in to determine the sequence of events leading up to the incident. Their findings indicated that Read and several friends had arrived at the residence prior to a domestic disturbance erupting between Read and the occupants of the home. Reports suggest that Read, driving a black SUV, intentionally ran over 53-year-old Tammy Swaim and then reversed, striking her again. Following the vehicular assault, Read rammed her SUV into the front porch and door, causing extensive damage to both the property and her vehicle.

Afterwards, Read fled the scene and parked her vehicle at a nearby Dollar General Store in Chico. However, she quickly returned to the residence, where a heated argument with other family members ensued, according to Sheriff Akin.

While the exact cause of the altercation remains under investigation, authorities suspect that alcohol may have played a role.

Law enforcement confirmed that no weapon was discovered on Read at the time of her arrest.

Tammy Swaim and another individual present at the residence were transported to Wise Health System in Decatur to receive medical treatment for their injuries. Sheriff Akin revealed that Swaim suffered a broken leg, while the other person sustained bruises.

Jail records indicate that Allyson Sage Read is now facing several charges, including one count of aggravated assault of a date/family/household member with a weapon, one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of burglary of a habitation, and three counts of abandon endangering a child intentionally/knowingly/recklessly criminal negligence.
