Irving emergency services rushed to the scene of a major accident along westbound IH-635 near MacArthur Blvd in Irving, at approximately 2:30 pm on October 10, 2023.
According to investigators, a driver was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the highway, resulting in a head-on collision with a second vehicle. Tragically, a passenger inside the second vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the second vehicle sustained serious injuries but is reported to be in stable condition after being transported to a Dallas trauma center.
The wrong-way driver, also injured in the collision, was taken to a Dallas hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
As authorities work the scene, their focus is on determining the point at which the vehicle entered the wrong lanes and identifying any factors that may have contributed to the driver's actions. Investigations are ongoing.
