Atmos Energy Gears Up for Harsh Winter Conditions: Offers Vital Tips for Safety and Energy Efficiency

Anticipating the arrival of severe winter weather, Atmos Energy is actively monitoring conditions and strategically deploying employees across its system for a prompt response.

With colder temperatures expected to impact natural gas usage, Atmos Energy encourages residents to adopt energy-efficient practices. Here are practical tips to ensure safety and conserve energy during the winter months:

  • Avoid using ovens or gas stovetops as heating sources.
  • Safeguard natural gas meters by clearing snow and ice with a broom or brush. Avoid using hard objects to chip away snow. For concerns, contact Atmos Energy’s Emergency Number at 866.322.8667.
  • Keep external vents for dryers and other gas equipment clear to prevent carbon monoxide buildup. Seek professional advice if uncertain about proper venting.
  • Prevent frozen pipes by leaving faucets running at a trickle, opening cabinet doors, and sealing windows and doors to retain heat.
  • Conserve energy and reduce costs by setting thermostats to 68 degrees during the day and 58 degrees when away from home.
  • In case of a suspected gas leak, promptly call 911 and Atmos Energy's emergency number at 866.322.8667. Evacuate the area safely.

For additional tips and resources, visit the Storm Center page at atmosenergy.com. While natural gas outages are rare, customers experiencing service issues can contact the 24/7 Atmos Energy emergency line at 866.322.8667.
