Danette Ozuna

Danette Ozuna, a 48-year-old woman from Dallas, has been sentenced to 12.5 years in federal prison for drug and firearm charges, as announced by U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Leigha Simonton.

Ozuna was indicted in October 2022 and pleaded guilty in September 2023 to one count each of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The sentencing was delivered on Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Brantley Starr.

Court documents revealed that in March 2022, a confidential informant conducted multiple purchases of methamphetamine from Ozuna at the Star Motel in Dallas. Following these transactions, law enforcement executed a search warrant at the hotel in May 2022, where Ozuna was found in a hotel room. During her arrest, Ozuna informed officers about a handgun hidden under the pillow of the bed.

Upon searching the premises, officers discovered a handgun, drug ledger, a bank bag containing $7,006 in cash, and a red bag containing methamphetamine. Additional methamphetamine was also found in the nightstand drawer.

At the sentencing hearing, prosecutors discussed a sign in the hotel room that listed rules for drug purchases:
