Nicholas Glenn Fields has been found guilty of murder following a chilling incident that took place in downtown Dallas on March 3rd, 2022. David Betts, who was peacefully sleeping on a bench in a park located in the 3000 block of Floyd Street, was brutally shot five times in the chest by Fields, without any provocation. Following the shooting, Fields fled the scene.
However, his escape was short-lived as he was spotted by a DART police officer and traced back to his homeless camp in Irving.
On March 9th, 2022, SWAT officers located Fields in a wooded area within the City of Irving. Shockingly, near his camp, they discovered the mummified remains of Eduardo Hernandez Lopez, lying approximately 70 feet away. Further examination revealed that the projectiles found within Lopez's body matched those fired from the same weapon used in the murder of David Betts just six days earlier.
Acknowledgement was given to the Dallas Police Department, Irving Police Department, and the DART Police Department for their exemplary investigative work in these cases.
Nicholas Glenn Fields has been sentenced to life in prison, to be served consecutively with a previous 60-year sentence. Additionally, he has been fined $10,000.
