Irving Police Department Responds to Firearm Incident at Ranchview High School

On Friday, March 1st, at approximately 2:28 pm, the Irving Police Department was alerted to a concerning situation at Ranchview High School, where a student reportedly displayed a firearm to another student on campus. Following this notification, the school initiated a lockdown protocol to ensure the safety of all individuals on the premises.

Upon arrival, officers secured the school and began examining digital evidence and surveillance footage. The footage revealed that the student in question had left the school grounds prior to the implementation of the lockdown. Despite this, officers remained vigilant, conducting thorough sweeps of the campus to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

The suspect, identified only as a juvenile, was located and apprehended by authorities. The Irving Police Department has chosen not to disclose the suspect's identity at this time.

Thankfully, no shots were fired during the incident.

At 4:00 pm, Irving Police said in a statement, "Parents, students, and staff should expect the lockdown to last at least another hour while officers physically go to each classroom to release them."

The investigation is ongoing.
