Fatal Accident Involving Pedestrian Shuts Down Eastbound Highway 114 in Irving

On Saturday evening, March 2, at 11:32pm, Irving Fire/EMS and Police rushed to respond to a major accident in the eastbound lanes of Highway 114 near Freeport Parkway.

According to the Irving Police Department, the incident stemmed from a minor collision involving two drivers. However, the situation escalated into an altercation between the drivers in the center lane of the highway.

Tragically, a passerby who stopped to offer assistance was fatally struck by another vehicle while crossing the highway. The driver responsible for hitting the pedestrian stayed at the scene.

Authorities have confirmed that alcohol was not a contributing factor in the crash.

As investigations continue, all lanes of the eastbound Highway 114 were closed to traffic to facilitate the examination of the scene by Irving police.

The circumstances surrounding the accident remain under investigation.
