Dallas Police responded to a welfare check call on February 24, 2024, at the 7500 block of Chaucer Place in the Wold Creek area . Upon entering the apartment, officers discovered Lawanda Mitchell, 52, on the floor in critical condition. Further investigation revealed that Mitchell had been assaulted by Barron Wallace, 33, on February 22, 2024.
On March 1, 2024, Wallace was arrested on outstanding warrants and charged with Injury to Elderly/Disabled Person. He was taken to the Dallas County Jail. However, on March 13, 2024, the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office notified the Dallas Police Homicide Unit that Mitchell had succumbed to her injuries.
As a result, Wallace's charges have been upgraded to Murder. He remains in custody at the County Jail. The case is documented under case number 034661-2024.
