On March 14, 2024, around 12:45 am, Dallas Police officers encountered a troubling situation while on covert duty in the 3200 block of Easter Avenue in Cedar Crest. The Officers were in an unmarked car. They observed a vehicle exhibiting erratic driving behavior. The officers decided to follow the vehicle. At one point, a suspect in the vehicle fired at officers in the unmarked car, going through the driver’s side door hitting an officer in the hip.
Air One and ground units engaged in pursuit, eventually leading to the arrest of five suspects in the 7200 block of Chesterfield Drive, almost 7 miles from were the pursuit began.
The injured officer was transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery. His condition has been reported as stable. Additionally, two suspects were transported to the hospital, one for chest pain and the other for non-life-threatening injuries.
One suspect remains at large. However, authorities were able to recover two firearms, one from the vehicle and another discarded by the suspects during the pursuit. It was later discovered that the suspect vehicle had been stolen.
No officers discharged their weapons during the incident.
The investigation is ongoing, with all findings documented under case number 041505-2024.
UPDATE: On March 14, 2024, Dallas Police arrested 17-year-old Jaheart Nickelberry and charged him with Aggravated Assault, Evading Arrest/Detention – Motor Vehicle, Aggravated Robbery, Theft -more than $30,000, less than $150,000. Dallas Police also arrested a 15-year-old female and charged her with Evading Arrest/Detention. Three other teens were released, not charged.
One suspect, a male, remains at large. There is no suspect description available at this time.
The injured officer remains in the hospital, in stable condition. The officer is a four-year veteran of the department, but his name will not be released.
