Waxahachie Man Sentenced to 55 Years for Aggravated Assault and Firearm Possession

Kenneth George Broderick

Kenneth George Broderick, 65, of Waxahachie, Texas, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for an Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon charge and 25 years in prison for an Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon charge. Broderick, a convicted felon and career criminal, was found guilty by a jury on March 12, 2024.

The incident took place on April 24, 2022, when officers from the Waxahachie Police Department responded to a shooting at the Dallas Suites and Inn. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim lying at the top of the stairs with a gunshot wound to his upper right arm. The victim had been pistol-whipped and shot by Broderick following an argument.

Surveillance footage corroborated the victim’s account, and officers found a trail of blood leading to the victim's room. A search warrant executed on Broderick's room revealed drug paraphernalia and ammunition matching the spent shell casing found near the victim.

Broderick was apprehended after a multi-hour standoff with the Waxahachie SWAT team. During the trial, evidence of Broderick's extensive criminal history, including over 15 prior felony convictions in various Texas counties, was presented.

Ellis County and District Attorney Ann Montgomery stated, “Broderick’s years of committing felonies and getting a slap on the wrist came to an end with this Ellis County jury’s verdict. My office and our citizens will not tolerate violence, especially from felons possessing guns illegally.”

Assistant County and District Attorneys Ashley Indelicato and Hope Sumrow prosecuted the cases, with assistance from County and District Attorney Investigator Joe Aguilar. The Waxahachie Police Department conducted the investigation.
