The West Irving Aquatic Center will offer more than 10,000 square feet of water attractions. Features will include four, 25-yard lap lanes with a wheelchair accessible entrance ramp, and unique amenities such as a rock climbing wall that extends 8 feet above the water. The center also will have lockers and concessions for the convenience of attendees, zero-depth entry, two water slides, an interactive playground and a shaded toddler pool. There will be numerous shaded areas available for picnics, parties and lounging. Construction is set to begin in July, 2009.
In May, 2008, a similar facility opened up in Valley Ranch. Cimarron Park Family Aquatic Center is located at 201 Red River Trail. Red River Trail crosses MacArthur Blvd, north of highway 635.
The $3.6 million price was funded by a bond program in 1999. The Cimarron Park Family Aquatic Center represents the first outdoor seasonal pool built in Irving since 1979 and is the first outdoor public pool north of State Highway 114.
The park features a 9,500-square-foot main pool and a 1,000-square-foot children's pool with spray features. The larger pool includes a water playground unit, spray grounds, teaching area, water volleyball, lap lanes, and two large water slides—one closed tube and one open tube. Both the children's pool and the main pool are zero-depth entry, which allows parents to play with their children in any depth of water and provides an additional measure of safety.
The new West Irving Aquatic Center will be a bit larger, but very similar, to the Cimarron Park Family Aquatic Center. As parent of two boys, 5 and 2, I know that this is a great park for the family. The boys love playing and sliding. The cost is very reasonable for budget-minded families.
