The Irving Police Department will participate in a DWI Enforcement Initiative during the Memorial Day weekend to help #EndTheStreakTX of daily deaths on Texas roadways. DWI unit officers will be primarily focused on locating and arresting impaired drivers.
The enforcement period will be between May 25, 2024, and May 26, 2024. During that time, the participating officers will concentrate their efforts on DWI patrols in highrisk sites and when impaired drivers are on the roadways, causing an increased potential for alcohol-related crashes resulting in injury or death. The high visibility and enforcement efforts should serve as a warning to those who would drive while impaired.
The Irving Police Department and TxDOT encourage people to “Plan While You Can” to avoid the consequences of impaired driving. A person’s abilities, decision-making skills, and judgment can diminish while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Consider using a taxi or car service, a designated driver, or public transportation as an alternative to driving after drinking.
