Arlington Officers Kill Irving Man Involved in Domestic Disturbance

The Arlington Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Sunday, June 9, 2024, in the 6500 block of S. Cooper Street.

At approximately 10:34 p.m., officers responded to Red Kane Park to investigate a reported domestic disturbance between a 42-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman who were previously in a relationship. As officers arrived and exited their patrol vehicles, the man displayed a handgun and fired multiple shots at the woman, striking her. Three officers immediately fired their service weapons at the man, hitting him.

Officers rendered first aid to both individuals until paramedics arrived. Both were transported to area hospitals. The man was later pronounced deceased from his injuries and has been identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as Shannon Remicah Boyd of Irving. The woman is currently listed in critical condition.

No officers were injured during the incident.

In accordance with standard procedure when an officer discharges their weapon, two investigations are underway: a criminal investigation by the APD Homicide Unit to review the incident and determine any criminal offenses, and an administrative investigation by the APD Internal Affairs Unit to assess if department policies and procedures were followed.

The officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave per department policy.
