At approximately 3:12 am on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, Hurst officers responded to a report of an accident in the 400 block of Northbound IH 820. Upon arrival, officers were informed that a dump truck leaving a construction site had impacted an overhead highway sign, causing the metal structure to collapse across IH 820 and create a road hazard.
Officers used their patrol vehicles to block the highway and divert traffic to the Pipeline exit. The driver of the dump truck had left the scene prior to the officers' arrival.
At around 3:41 am, a motorcycle bypassed the patrol vehicles and struck the fallen debris in the roadway. Officers responded immediately and began lifesaving efforts until the Hurst Fire Department arrived. The individual was transported to JPS Hospital by ambulance.
