The Richardson Police Department issued an update regarding a report filed on August 12, 2024. On Monday, at approximately 8:20 a.m., a resident reported a suspicious vehicle following a student walking to school. Surveillance footage from a home on the 900 block of Melrose Drive showed the vehicle repeatedly driving up and down the street. The student, feeling uncomfortable, took refuge at a nearby home. The driver did not make any verbal contact with or approach the student.
Although the vehicle's license plate was not captured, the surveillance video provided sufficient details for detectives to initiate a search. With the help of School Resource Officers, detectives were able to locate and identify the vehicle and its driver. Interviews with the driver, the student, and the student’s family verified the incident details. It was determined that the driver was dropping off a family member at JJ Pearce High School. Detectives found that there was no direct contact or communication between the driver and the student. Despite the concerning nature of the driver’s behavior, no criminal charges were filed.
