As part of Dallas Fort Worth International Airport's (DFW) ongoing 50th anniversary celebrations, the airport hosted a rare 5K run on one of its seven active runways this past weekend.
The 5K on the Runway event began at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, drawing over 1,300 participants, including seasoned runners, walkers, and first-time racers. The event created a lively atmosphere, with individuals from all over the region gathering to run on the airport's runway 13R/31L, a stretch that measures 9,300 feet in length.
Despite the unusual setting, normal flight operations were not interrupted during the race. Participants embraced the unique opportunity to run directly on the airfield, making it a once-in-a-lifetime experience as part of the airport's ongoing anniversary celebrations.
