The Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney's Office announced that 19-year-old Kailand Rushton pled guilty to two counts of Aggravated Robbery and was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
The incidents occurred on January 6, 2023, when Rushton, along with another man, assaulted an elderly woman in their own neighborhood, choking her during the robbery. The victim testified in court that she feared for her life during the attack. Less than two hours later, Rushton and his accomplice assaulted a disabled neighbor and stole her car.
The two suspects were apprehended after a police pursuit later that night, which resulted in the total loss of the stolen vehicle. The Fort Worth Police Department conducted the investigation into the case.
The prosecution was handled by Assistant District Attorneys Matthew Jackson and Michael Mayfield. During the proceedings, ADA Jackson remarked, "He targeted individuals that he knew, individuals he possibly could've used as role models."
