Hurst to Open Inclusive Coffee Shop Employing Special Needs Students

The City of Hurst, in partnership with HEB ISD and nonprofit organization 6 Stones, has announced plans to transform the former donut shop at 420 W. Pipeline Rd. into a sit-down and drive-thru coffee shop with a unique mission.

Responding to the community's request for a local, non-chain coffee shop, the project will provide employment opportunities for students and young adults with special needs. Many employees will come from HEB ISD’s Moving into Adult Roles and Communities (MARC) program, which helps students build essential life skills and engage with the community.

The coffee shop's development involves collaboration with HEB ISD Superintendent Joe Harrington, the district’s Director of Special Education, and HEB ISD students. Students from the district’s Architectural and Interior Design Program are helping design the floor plan for the renovated space, ensuring a welcoming and updated environment.

This initiative aims to create more than just a coffee shop; it will serve as a hub for community connection and inclusion while providing meaningful opportunities for individuals who learn differently. Renovations are underway to bring the vision to life.
