The City of Irving Fire Department is moving forward with plans to relocate Fire Station No. 8 to a new, state-of-the-art facility at 5601 Riverside Drive. The station will be constructed on the site of the former DART Transit Station, with construction slated to begin in January 2025. The $15.3 million project is expected to be completed in early 2026, weather permitting.
The new facility will span 19,579 square feet and be built on 2.8 acres of land. It will include modern amenities such as four pass-through apparatus bays, a full kitchen, a day room, exercise areas, and lodging for on-duty personnel. In addition to its primary function as a fire station, the building will house a designated voting center that also serves as a training area for the Fire Department.
Other key features of the new station will include a boathouse and fire boat for service to properties along Lake Carolyn, as well as an all-terrain EMS vehicle for emergencies along Campion Trail.
The relocation of Fire Station No. 8 will allow for improved spacing for current fire-fighting equipment and provide room for future upgrades in fire safety technology. The new site, located on the northwest side of the former DART Transit Station, removes the fire station from the adjacent DART Rail Orange Line, offering better operational efficiency and safety for personnel.
The project is part of the city's ongoing commitment to enhancing public safety and emergency response capabilities.
