On December 29, 2024, at approximately 9:21 p.m., Garrett Police Department officers were dispatched to Holly Loop in Ellis County regarding a juvenile male with a gunshot wound.
Officer Pradia arrived on the scene and found the victim lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. The officer immediately administered life-saving measures, including applying pressure to the wound and calming those present.
Preliminary investigations indicate the victim was unintentionally shot with a shotgun by another juvenile. The victim was transported to a Dallas hospital and is expected to recover.
Police have confirmed this was an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the community.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim, families, and friends affected by this incident. Parents, please teach your children gun safety and lock up your firearms to help prevent an incident like this from happening," said Garrett Police Chief Michael Carter.
The investigation remains ongoing.
