DFW Airport operations teams worked tirelessly on Thursday to manage severe winter weather conditions, including snow, drizzle, and ice, as Winter Storm Cora impacted much of the southern United States. Despite the challenges, the airport assured travelers that crews and partners were actively working to keep the airfield, roads, and facilities safe and operational.
The airport's operations department engaged in FAA-required deicing procedures, spraying heated fluid on aircraft wings and other surfaces to remove snow and ice. "Thanks to the dedicated teams keeping our airfield, roads, and facilities safe during today's storm," DFW Airport stated in a release.
However, over 1,400 flights were canceled, and nearly 300 delayed at DFW Airport as the storm disrupted air travel across the region. The airport also addressed rumors circulating online, stating, "We are aware of posts claiming that DFW is out of runway deicing materials. We have ample supplies and crews have been working hard to keep the airfield moving safely as weather allows."
Travelers were advised to check with their airlines regarding flight status and exercise caution while driving to the airport. DFW Airport reminded passengers to allow extra drive time as icy conditions persist.
