Fort Worth Police Proposes New Amendments to CCPD Budget to Address Growing Safety Needs

With Fort Worth's rapid growth, the Crime Control & Prevention District (CCPD) is ramping up efforts to enhance public safety. The Fiscal Year 2025 CCPD budget, approved last fall, includes increased funding for police vehicles, expanded bike patrols in the Magnolia Street and Fort Worth Stockyards entertainment districts, additional school resource officers, and crossing guards.

The CCPD, funded by a half-cent of the city’s sales tax and approved by voters in 1995, supplements the Fort Worth Police Department budget to fight and prevent crime. The district was renewed by voters in 2020 for another 10 years. Currently, the police budget constitutes nearly 32% of the city's General Fund.

New Amendments Proposed

Amendments to the CCPD budget include:

  • Increased Recruit Pay: To attract and retain law enforcement personnel.
  • Renovations at the Real-Time Crime Center: Enhancing technology and operations.
  • Crime Lab Outsourcing and Study: To streamline forensic processes.

Plans for a New Central Patrol Division

One significant proposal is the establishment of a new Central Patrol Division. Initially planned for the old City Hall at 200 Texas Street, the high cost of building a parking garage and logistical challenges led to the decision to search for a new location.

The proposed facility will house 250 personnel, terminate two high-cost leases, and save over $800,000 annually. Requirements include 7–10 acres, parking for 300 vehicles, and a central location.

Next Steps

The CCPD will discuss these amendments and remaining budget allocations at its next meeting on Tuesday, February 25. The focus remains on ensuring that the city's safety measures align with its rapid growth.
