South Irving Property Owners Assoc. Meeting Alert

SIPOA is holding its first General Membership Meeting which will be a business meeting on March 31, 2009 at Oak View Baptist Church on South Story Rd.

Please plan to attend. Your presence and input is very important to SIPOA. Your interim Board has been working tirelessly to get SIPOA off and running and you need to attend the business meeting to show your support and become better informed of what is happening.

The agenda for the meeting will include:

  • >Election of our New Board of Directors who will take leadership of SIPOA on May 1, 2009
  • >Update to the membership regarding activities of the interim Board of Directors between September 30th and now.
  • >SIPOA accomplishments during the same time period.
  • >Update on the current state of the Barnet Shale and how it effects SIPOA.
  • >Update on activities of Keystone and other landmen.
  • >Opportunityto volunteer to serve your community through SIPOA.
  • The SIPOA Nominating Committee, James Baker (chairman), Roy Getting, Doug Harper, Sue Harper, and Marilyn Wilson, have worked very diligently to review the suggested nominees that they received from the membership. Almost 30 names were suggested and the list had to be reduced to 15. Some of the individuals were not SIPOA members and could not serve on the Board, others were not Irving residents, others when approached declined nomination due to personal reasons. After weeks of phone calls, emails, and meetings the Nominating Committee has selected the following list of SIPOA members for your consideration as Board Members for SIPOA. The 10 nominees receiving the largest number of votes will become the new Board of Directors on May 1, 2009.

    Rosann Alexander: 70 years young, married to Herman Alexander. Rosann has been an Irving resident 27 years, teacher, minister 52 years. Mother of 3 children and has 8 grandchildren. Business: Owner, World Missions Travel, since 1983. Graduate from West Texas A & M University, BS, English, health, physical ed, recreation. Taught all over the world, Canyon, TX; Lubbock, TX; Adelaide, Australia and Brno, Czech Republic. Rosann is a motivational, self-improvement speaker and has a great interest in people, travel and reading.

    James Baker: Charter Member of SIPOA. Irving resident since 1959, Irving H. S. grad, a corporate, forensic and tax accountant, married, 6 children, U.S. Army, and Vietnam Vet, wants a better relationship between citizens and businesses and the city.  James wants to help negotiate an equitable gas lease.

    Carol Carper: Attended UT Austin, worked as a legal secretary for 25 plus years. Had own business as a legal secretary service for 6 years. Due to several mineral interests I have in West Texas counties and in Leon County, Texas, I am familiar with oil and gas leases, division orders, and pipeline disputes.  Resident of South Irving 41 years. Married with 4 children and 6 grandchildren

    Linda Fischer: Irving Resident for 44 years. President of Grauwyler Heights Neighborhood Association for 9 years. Her dedication to her neighbors and the city as a whole is selfless, thoughtful of issues at large and always good-humored. Received City of Irving – High Spirited Award 2006. Linda is frequently seen at city hall and city council meetings watching, listening and advocating for her neighborhood. She would do the same for SIPOA.

    Edna C. Garcia: Currently serving as secretary of the board and secretary to the newly formed North Austin Heights Neighborhood Association, employed at the University of Dallas since 1987 as an Administrative Assistant in the Dean’s office.  Married with 3 children and 4 grandchildren and one on the way!  Edna is fluent in English and Spanish. Edna is actively involved with her neighborhood in securing memberships for SIPOA, educating friends and neighbors about the mineral rights / gas lease agreements and about making south Irving a better place to live. 

    Roy Getting: Charter Member of SIPOA, Irving resident for 5 years, wife Holly (25 year Irving resident), Works for a financial services co. Working for a better family and business friendly Irving by continuing to organize our citizens.

    Milton Haney: Born an Army brat, lived in many places Germany, Washington, El Paso, U.S. Navy electronics, college graduate, TSU and UT Dallas, married, one daughter, worked at Trinity Metals nearly 20 years, various capacities in materials planning. Milton wants to help guide SIPOA to a favorable lease agreement.

    Doug Harper: Lucky to have Sue Harper as my wife for 42 years. U.S. Navy electronics, Washburn Univ. in Kansas, BA economics, self-employed electronics service co., VP for Chuck E Cheese / Showbiz / Brock Hotel Corp., now employed in high tech electronics / microscopy. Chairs the newest neighborhood association (60th) South Delaware Creek.  I am helping with public relations efforts for SIPOA and Irving’s Crisis Food Ministry. I am passionate about improving south Irving.

    Sue Harper: Married, 2 children and 2 grandchildren and one on the way! Professional admin. accountant, reality experience, office manager for a U.S. Congressman, personnel / office manager for an Irving advertising & marketing firm.  Secretary of the Board for the South Delaware Creek neighborhood association. Currently helping with public relations for SIPOA and for Irving’s Crisis Food Ministry. Passionate about improving south Irving, strong negotiator and wants a fair gas lease for all parties.

    Kenny Hernandez: An Irving resident since 1989, Kenny is married, and employed in high end Security Specialties. He is a go-getter volunteer in his neighborhood association; bi-lingual, and passionate about securing equity in South Irving from the city.

    Gary Schepf: Lived in Irving since 1965, graduate of Nimitz H.S., teacher in Irving ISD for 31 years and currently at The Academy of Irving ISD, and supervises seniors in their internships throughout the metroplex. Treasurer of Irving Heritage Society, member of Irving Youth Council. Currently in a PhD program and completing a second MEd in school administration. South Irving is where the story began and where the story will continue to bloom. I see culture in the heritage district that connects the metroplex via the TRE, where nature’s beauty is more important than another building and an international destination for the world.

    Richard Sprague: Resident of Irving for 27 years. Works for the City of Irving, He has helped Edna Garcia with flyer distribution for SIPOA and his neighborhood association. He has worked with Irving Citizens on Patrol. Richard is interested in cleaning up the south Irving neighborhoods, code enforcement, and seeks a fair gas lease for all parties.

    James Wallace: Founder of SIPOA, currently serves SIPOA as Vice-Chairman of the Board. Resident of Irving since 1972. James and his wife Barbara have been married 42 years. Self-employed, member of First Christian Church for 34 years, Tirelessly works in his church and community. James is passionate about improving Irving and working with the City to make our community a better place to live.

    Don Wilson: Family moved to Irving in 1918 and 4 generations of Wilson’s have attended Irving Schools. Has a love for south Irving, its people and their heritage. Attended J.O. Schultz, Otis Brown, Bowie Jr. High, and Irving H.S. Married for 38 years to high school sweetheart, U.S. Army, Computer Programmer / IT Manager 30 years. Currently serves as Chairman of the Board and Webmaster for SIPOA while Substitute Teaching Math at Nimitz, seeking alternative Teacher Certification and completing a Masters in Business Admin. Has a vision for a strong and prosperous south Irving united for the common good of her residents.

    Marilyn Wilson: Irving resident since 1964, graduate of Irving H.S., Married to best friend for 38 years, 3 children, 2 grandchildren, 4 dogs, 2 parrots, and several feral cats. Co-founder of 2 Home School Support Organizations. Serves SIPOA as communication person, coordinates special events – 4th of July Flags and SIPOA City Christmas Parade. Has a deep love and respect for south Irving and its residents, a strong commitment to unite south Irving, save its heritage, and improve community life for the future.
