Jesus "Jay" Chapa was sworn in as the new City Manager of Fort Worth during a City Council ceremony on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. With over two decades of service in local government, Chapa steps into the role with a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to Fort Worth’s growth.
Chapa, a well-respected leader in the city, is the first Hispanic city manager in Fort Worth’s history. Throughout his career, he has held significant positions, including deputy city manager and director of housing and economic development. His leadership has helped to implement policies that strengthened Fort Worth’s economy, public safety, and financial stability.
His tenure is marked by transformative projects such as the opening of Dickies Arena, the development of Renaissance Square, and the growth of the Near Southside as a vibrant entertainment hub.
Chapa holds a master's degree in public administration from the University of North Texas and a bachelor's degree in history from Texas Tech University. He and his wife, Evalis, have one daughter, Emilia, a medical student.
Chapa takes over from David Cooke, who is retiring after serving as Fort Worth’s city manager for over a decade. Cooke will remain in office until February 2025, ensuring a smooth transition, and a public farewell event is planned for February 20, 2025, from 4-6 p.m. at City Hall.
