Construction Set to Begin on New Senter Park Indoor Aquatics Center

Construction on the new Senter Park Pool is set to begin on February 10, marking the transformation of the existing outdoor pool into a year-round indoor aquatics facility at 901 S. Senter Road. The new center is expected to open Memorial Day weekend in 2026.

The upcoming aquatics facility will feature a leisure and lap pool with a maximum depth of five feet, a spiral waterslide, a zipline, a toddler pool with interactive play elements, and an outdoor sun deck. The children’s areas will feature rainforest-themed artwork, while hexagon-shaped lane markers in the lap pool will pay tribute to the hexagon island from the original Senter Park Pool, which was built in 1954. Additional amenities will include a reception area, lounge, party rooms, and locker rooms.

With an estimated cost of $25 million, the aquatics center will connect to the existing Senter Park Recreation Center, expanding the facility to approximately 67,000 square feet. A shared entrance will be located on the south side of the building, facing Delaware Creek. The southern parking lot will be expanded to accommodate over 150 spaces, and the tennis courts will be relocated to Senter East Park at 1000 Senter Road.

Visitors to Senter Park Recreation Center may experience minor disruptions during construction, including increased noise and construction traffic. The northeast parking lot will also be closed for the duration of the project.

This redevelopment is part of the "Let’s Play Irving: Elevating Aquatics & Recreation" initiative, which includes projects at Lee and Senter Park pools, as well as the future Mustang Park Recreation and Aquatic Center. Funding comes from multiple sources, including the 2021 and 2006 municipal bond elections, the Capital Improvement Program fund, pension bond capacity, and the American Rescue Plan Act.
