The City of Irving Police Department (IPD) has broken ground on its new Live Fire Tactical Training Center, a $17.5 million facility located at Belt Line Road and State Highway 161. The project, funded through the 2021 municipal bond election, aims to enhance police training capabilities and accommodate the department’s long-term needs for the next 40 to 50 years.
The new facility will significantly expand firearms and tactical training for Irving police officers. It will feature:
- 20 shooting lanes at 100 yards, compared to the current facility’s seven lanes at 25 yards, allowing for long-range weapons training.
- A multi-use tactical training space for dynamic, real-world scenarios.
- The ability to bring vehicles inside the facility for scenario-based training exercises.
Officials say the state-of-the-art training center is designed to provide officers with the tools and environment necessary for advanced tactical readiness, helping improve response times and decision-making in high-pressure situations.
The facility is expected to be completed by early 2026, weather permitting.
